1953 Friendly ~ England vs Hungary (Full Classic Match)

1953 Friendly ~ England vs Hungary (Full Classic Match)
If English football has its own Big Bang – a single event that really changed everything – this match could very well qualify as that Big Bang.
In 1953, the Hungarians ruled the world of football. The Magical Magyars had been unbeaten for three successive years. They could field an army of generals. The legendary Puskas and Kocsis upfront. Behind them such greats as the winger Czibor, the playmaker Hidegkuti and the deep-lying midfielder Bozsik. This team had won the 1952 Olympics and 1953 Central European Cup with ease.
But they hadn’t played England yet. And in those days the English assumed that, as inventors of the game, they were simply superior to everyone else. So the FA invited the Hungarians over to Wembley, where England had never lost to non-British opposition, for a lesson in football.
English football would never be the same.

Line-ups:

England
Merrick – Ramsey, Johnston, Eckersley – Wright, Dickinson – Taylor, Sewell – Matthews, Mortensen, Robb.
Coach: Walter Winterbottom

Hungary
Grocis – Buzansky, Lorant, Zakarias, Lantos – Bozsik, Hidegkuti – Budai, Kocsis, Puskas, Czibor
Coach: Gusztáv Sebes

1957 FA Cup Final ~ Aston Villa vs Manchester United (Full Classic Match)

1957 FA Cup Final ~ Aston Villa vs Manchester United (Full Match)

A rare chance to see a legendary Manchester United generation in action: the Busby Babes, before they were cut off in their prime by the Munich Air Disaster.

Indeed, less than a year after this match, six of the players in the team United fielded against Aston Villa, would be dead. Some of them, like Duncan Edwards, were among the greatest talents in the world.
Aston Villa couldn’t claim players of such caliber, and indeed were not a team of great quality. In fact, the club had not won an FA Cup since 1920.
Line-ups:
Aston Villa
Sims – Lynn, Aldis – Crowther, Dugdale, Saward – Smith, Sewell, Myerscough, Dixon, McParland
Manager: Eric Houghton
Manchester United
Wood – Foulkes, Byrne – Colman, Blanchflower, Edwards – Berry, Whelan, Taylor, Charlton, Pegg
Manager: Matt Busby
